There is a GIGANTIC BUG in our laundry room! I just almost STEPPED ON IT because I didn't notice it till it SCURRIED away! Ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod. Marvin Gardens is at work and I am here alone with the WORLD'S BIGGEST BUG.
I threw Winston back there and shut the door. He seems to be chasing after it.
Every instinct in my body tells me to run screaming out of the house but I have to unpack all day and OH NO what if there are MORE bugs in the BOXES?!?! Oh, this is dreadful. What IS that horrid bug?
Also my garbage disposal needs freshening and back in LA I could just walk in the back yard and pick a lemon. Here I can't even go in the back yard because to do so I would have to walk through the bug room. I am never doing laundry again.
Ugh. I want to go home.
Also also, not to mention, our other cat Francis has a terrible cold that he caught either at the kennel or on the plane. I know I caught a charming cold when we traveled to Boston recently, so perhaps poor Frannie got the same on-the-plane bug. At any rate, he's wheezing and miserable and I don't know any vets. Plus, besides, I don't have a car to take him to the vet.
Oh, I hate everything. I cannot believe I am in the house with the largest bug ever to grace mankind.

Growing up, Marvin's usual bug killing technique was to scream for me to come kill it, so I am sure he will be a big help.
Could you come kill it, then?
I hope it's not a roach--yuck! As for the cough--my dog caught something called Kennel cough when he was in the kennel--it's really bronchitis, and he needed antibiotics. Hope you can find a vet! Still praying you will adjust quickly--I know the bugs not helping.
I just paid my kids five bucks to kill the world's largest spider. Find a neighbor boy - it will be money well spent.
Geez. I want some details about this bug. Let's find out what it is. What color is it? Does it have wings? How many legs does it have? Does it have pinchers? Is it making any noises? Perhaps when Marvin Gardens returns, he could catch the big bug and use it for a classroom pet.
Giant bug = Giant can of RAID
June, I'll betcha it's a palmetto bug (aka American Cockroach). They get enormous and are VERY common in the South...I saw my first one in Florida when I was a kid and had the very same reaction: "ohmygodohmygodohmygod!!"
They're utterly revolting. Harmless, but revolting nonetheless!

GIANT Bug = Giant can of RAID
Oh June!
Later, when you have the car, I think the purchase of the biggest can of Raid is totally justified.
I'm so sorry you are having such a difficult time adjusting to your new home. You might want to get some roach bait at your local Home Depot, or Lowe's in NC. It might attract more initially, but they eat it and it will kill them. If you can find traps they work without all the chemicals, but the bugs are caught by really sticky surface and they die and you toss the traps out. The sooner you get those boxes emptied and OUT the sooner you can get control over the bugs. You might have brought the bugs in with the boxes, especially if they are cardboard. Be encouraged, this too will pass.
How about using an exterminator--its the latest anniversary present.
What about the librarian? Can't she holler at someone for a good vet? Or a pest control person?
