Hair-rific

Do you see this hot mess, here? That, my friends, is the back of my hair. This photo was taken when we were back in Michigan.

That guy is a friend of Marvin Gardens'. I liked him.

He must have felt terribly sorry for Marvin that he married someone with such screwed up hair. LOOK at that! It had snowed all over my head that day, but still.

Anyway, my rule for this year was that I got to get a haircut if my hair got ridiculous, and there is no argument for that.

Remember in I Love Lucy when someone tells Ethel she's never looked better and Fred says, "I won't argue with that!" Fred was underrated.

I have an appointment for Friday afternoon in Charlotte. The salon was recommended to me by the sister of a friend back in LA. You'd think this was a doctor's appointment, the way I did my research.

Afterwards, I am getting together with my friend Marianne, who lives 20 miles outside of Charlotte. Marianne and I met in Seattle, during a rugby game. We had both been dragged there against our wills. So, standing there in the middle of a wet (because it was Seattle), cold (because it was January) rugby field, Marianne turned to me and said, "You wanna go back to the car and drink all the beer?"

And a star was born.

I will keep you posted as to the hair results. Fret not.

Ohhhh I would swap your thick curly hair for my fine straight hair in a heartbeat! I guess we always want what we don't have.

I have a question for you .. What would you pay for a haircut? I go to Fantastic Sams and don't mind paying #12.95 plus a tip for my cuts .. but I have heard of women paying hundreds of dollars at the hairdressers. Just wondering! :o)

Linda, the Aussie One, I'll tell you. In Los Angeles, I paid TWO HUNDRED TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS plus TIP to the hairdresser AND the hair washer, PLUS valet parking if I couldn't find parking. But with this hair? Well worth it.

Now, here, I dunno. I doubt it's that much. My guess is 50? 75? It's an Aveda salon, so they can be pretentious if they want, so maybe it'll be 100. I just hope I don't emerge looking like Carrot Top.

I LOVE I love Lucy. My mum was obsessed with that show. I think I have seen every episode about three hundred times. I still love the vitametavegamin one the best. Ha.

Good luck with the hair cut. I always feel worried going. You never know how it's going to end up!

Exciting! I can't wait to see the final result. Love the smell of Aveda salons... so soothing! Are you going to do anything drastic, or just get a trim?

After seeing the back of my head, Bronwyn, I want to shave the whole thing. But probably nothing drastic.

June,

When I lived in Denver, I got my haircut at an Aveda school for like twelve dollars. We would get our nails done for three dollars and our eyebrows waxed for fifty cents. Those were the best haircuts..ever..and cheap. Maybe there is an Aveda school in Charlotte.

June,
I remember a scene in one of the Harry Potter movies where Hermione says "Is that what my hair looks like from the BACK???", it made me laugh. I could relate.

Ohmygod, poor Hermione and I have the SAME HAIR. I have always felt sorry for that kid.

In Saginaw, a haircut is about $13.00. I'm going Monday. Right now
I look like a shaggy dog. I greet clients at the clinc, this week I
frighten them with my hair!

I am sorry to say that we are hair twins. What's really sad is that in high school and college, not only did I literally weigh half what I do now (well, almost), I had waist-length, very straight, blonde hair. I got compliments on it everywhere. Then I got fat and also had kids and my hair forgot who I was or something. Because now it is a strange color (with some grays just for fun) and some parts are sort of straight, some parts are wavy and some are actually in ringlets. My Mom gets a big kick out of reminding me how when we went to Scotland to visit my sister, my hair was VERY BIG the whole time. Sigh.
