Update on Churchy Job

So, I am now the official secretary at the Episcopal church. I work 16 hours a week, and I set my own hours. I think I'll go in 9-12 each weekday (1 p.m. on Friday) and then go home and do my Los Angeles proofreading.

Now naturally, today when I got home from meeting with the minister, I got an email from the place I interviewed last week, saying they are very enthusiastic about me and they are sending me a proofreading test.

Good gravy.

And in case anyone was worried, I am not really going to buy sweater sets for my new job. I will wear my old, crappy faded outfits until January 1st. But in January 2? Sweater purchases galore!!

  1. Congratulations! The job sounds great -- a nice, steady source of income and the chance to meet a lot of people, I imagine.

  2. Thank you, Catherine. It's just so funny, as I am not what you'd call a church-goer. Or a secretary. But there it is.

I figure things fall into your lap for a reason.

  5. June,

I'm SOOO happy for you. I want a job that will pay me for doing something 16 hours a week...How perfect is that? And, just think, you'll be getting a "get into heaven free card" since you now work at a church! Maybe you can snag an extra one for me...

    Congrats!

    Your pal in MA...

  6. Congrats! I think you will be an awesome church secretary!

Too bad about the sweater sets...Target is having a sale.

Oh how I wish I could go shopping with you on January 2nd. I am thinking that that is going to be a glorious day for you! Do I hear an Amen?!

Maybe we could plan a cross country shopping day and all celebrate your finishing this experiment, and then all blog about the sweaters we bought. Of course at that point, winter will be over here in the desert so I can post my flip-flops and tank tops.

    Any way, congratulations again!

  8. June, I thinking if you already don't have The Mitford Bedside Companion you need to go buy it...consider it a job training expense...it should be your bedtime reading for the next couple of weeks...do you get to work for Father Tim? Man an Episcopal Church in North Carolina...you don't get much closer to living fiction than that! I can imagine that you will really liven up the place!

  9. You are the SECOND person I know who got hired as a church secretary in the past few weeks. Hmm....I wonder if it's a sign. Signs signs everywhere a sign.....
